Denkraum Bauhaus

Sixth international symposium on the mediation of architecture

BDK – Association for Art Education

A national conference is being planned for 2019 during which the question of contemporary pedagogy for the next generation and the responsibility of architects, artists, and designers in the teaching of personal responsibility and social participation will be considered. The latter forms the focus of the interdisciplinary discourse on the topicality of the utopias and pedagogy of the Bauhaus in their reception for contemporary education.

Prepared by a think tank involving renowned experts, the conference is expected to make an important contribution to the discourse on the professional qualification of artists, designers and architects as well as mediators. The international symposium on the mediation of art and architecture, which is based on a successful series of conferences held by the Faculty of Art and Design and the Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar, will be held in 2019 as a national conference for art educators and mediators. Around 300 internal and external educational mediators from Germany and abroad are expected to attend, along with university lecturers for architecture, design and art. They will engage in a productive discourse on the contemporary approaches to the historical Bauhaus for teaching in universities, schools, and external educational contexts. Fundamental Bauhaus concepts and their contemporary reception in artistic, creative, and design teaching at universities and academies both in Germany and abroad will be discussed for the first time.

The conference will take place on 27–29 September 2019. (Due to the demand for a cross-disciplinary, international discourse and the integration of current teaching positions at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar, the project will contribute significantly to the University’s visibility.)
