»[dis]solving boundaries«: Bauhaus Research School tenth anniversary events

The Bauhaus Research School (BRS) has been helping young scientific and artistic talent at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar with their doctoral activities for ten years. BRS has been celebrating its tenth birthday since last autumn, and the associated »[dis]solving boundaries« event series will be taking place from 4 to 8 July 2018.

The »Young Bauhaus Research Conference 2018« on 5 and 6 July is aimed at scientists in all subject areas, artists and designers. What shapes boundaries and what are and will they be used for? These questions will be examined by attendees during panels, discussion groups, workshops and performances. This will give rise to the interdisciplinary discourses that represent the Bauhaus Research School’s work. Attendees can register online, and the conference will also be broadcast live.

In addition, for the first time ever there will also be an exhibition explicitly examining the topic of doctoral studies at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar. The »doctoral exhibition« offers insights into 24 projects by doctoral and post-doctoral students from all of the university’s faculties. On 4 July at 4:30 p.m., the exhibition team invites guests to attend the opening ceremony in the university library. The exhibition can be viewed in the university library’s lower lobby and at Kiosk.6 on Sophienstiftsplatz from 2 to 8 July.

The »Research Walk« follows the exhibition opening from 5 p.m. onwards, taking in four stations across the campus where visitors can explore doctoral research directly on the ground: from »fluidly flowing capillary glass« to »living space research« to »vandalism and damage in Wikipedia« to the »CableBot« project. The subsequent get-together at 6:30 p.m. at the Bauhaus.Atelier also launches the conference, which begins at 9 a.m. on Thursday morning.

On Friday, six doctoral students will report on their work at the university as part of the »Science Slam«. Each has eight minutes to present their project, with the use of images, videos and experiments all permitted. The audience’s applause will be used to judge the winner. The »Science Slam« starts on 6 July at 6 p.m. at the Nike Tempel, Radio Lotte on Goetheplatz.

»[Dis]solving boundaries« invites doctoral students and all other interested parties to spend the week from 4 to 8 July 2018 discussing and developing ideas to support young research talent at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar.
