»Outside of the professional world, the university environment offers leeway to design something that does not have to be commercially viable, but instead represents an opportunity to independently develop your own themes«, is the summary of Malte Wanitschke, one of the graduates. »We are proud that a wide variety of designs, products and concepts can now be seen together at our ›final_final‹ exhibition.«
Maximilian Schatz grappled with new materials, and his final project focuses on harvest residues from leek cultivation. He used a series of experiments to investigate the material properties and potential production process of this new raw material. His »leek material«, made from what was previously a worthless waste product, can even be used in pressed and poured fibre form to make compostable soles for shoes.
Friederike Wawerka is presenting »Kristallista – a game with light and mirrors for 2 to 5 players aged 8 and over«. In this strategic board game, the players become members of the crew of various spaceships that have landed on an abandoned space base. Their task is to collect energy crystals and transform light in various colours using prism reflectors. This offers a fun way to explore optical phenomena.
Moritz Neuner has designed a cross between a luggage trolley and a skateboard that can be used to carry loads of up to 30 kilos. His »Lastkraftbrett (LKB)«, approximately meaning ‘truck board’, is electrically powered and is ideal for busy cities and use on public transport. What is special about his creation is its open design approach: a plan to allow others to design and construct their own nano-vehicle will be available free of charge, inviting people to create their own »mini vehicle«.
