Director of Mitteldeutsche Rundfunk discusses digitalisation in public service media

As part of the »Mensch Macht Moderne« event series, on Wednesday 25 April 2019 at 6 pm in the Yellow Room at Albrecht-Dürer-Straße 2, Prof. Dr. Karola Wille will be speaking on the topic: »Digital turning point – the perspective of public service media« Anyone interested in the topic is welcome to attend.

 

Prof. Wille has been working at Mitteldeutsche Rundfunk radio (MDR) since 1991 and has been the director there since 2011. In a time of great change in the media landscape, Ms. Wille spearheaded MDR’s sustainable transformation into a modern trimedia company and launched various reform projects for the ARD consortium. She took her turn as ARD chair in 2016 and 2017. She is also the ARD’s film director, sits on the ARD board, and is president of the FFA German Film Board. Karola Wille was named a »Chevalier de l’ordre des Arts et des Lettres« by France’s Minister of Culture for her outstanding services to cultural cooperation between Germany and France.

In her lecture »Digital turning point – the perspective of public service media« at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar, Ms Wille will report on facts and trends from the media sector, particularly focusing on the question of the German public service media’s legitimacy in the era of convergence and digitalisation. The director will offer a first-hand account of MDR’s transformation process and the changes to ARD. This will be rounded off by a get-together with an opportunity for exchange and discussion. The event will take place in the University building at Albrecht-Dürer Straße 2 in 99423 Weimar.

The event is open to the public and anyone interested is invited to attend.

This talk is part of an event series organised by the President of the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar for the Bauhaus Centenary. »Mensch Macht Moderne« focuses on the concepts of »autonomy« and »responsibility« for modern people. During this event series, representatives of politics, culture, and the media will discuss key Bauhaus issues with students from a modern perspective.
