Bauhaus visiting professor to give lecture on the circular economy

Patricia Espinosa, the Executive Secretary for the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change and a Bauhaus visiting professor, will visit the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar again on 7–8 February 2019. During a series of events, students, teachers and all other interested parties will have the opportunity to discuss sustainability issues with the climate diplomat.

At 4 pm on Thursday, Patricia Espinosa and the University’s President Prof. Dr. Winfried Speitkamp will open the »go4spring« and »Winterwerkschau« semester exhibitions. During a tour of the studios, workrooms and workshops of the Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism and the Faculty of Art and Design, Patricia Espinosa will gain insights into ongoing projects and view selected study outcomesfrom the Bauhaus.Semester, which are also being presented. The Bauhaus-Universität Weimar initiated the Bauhaus.Semester in 2018/19 to launch the centenary celebrations for »100 Years of Bauhaus in Weimar« and in particular to promote interdisciplinary study and innovative study formats.

Following the guided tour of the campus, the Presidium invites the University public and all interested parties to an English-language lecture in the Oberlichtsaal by Patricia Espinosa entitled »Circular economy as a path towards sustainability«.

On Friday, 8 February 2019, the climate diplomat will continue her discussions with students. During a workshop with students from the Master’s programmes in architecture and urban planning as well as civil engineering and archineering, she will discuss aspects of future-oriented, sustainable and resource-saving architecture and urban planning. In the interdisciplinary design seminar entitled »Skyway.City – Konzepte für eine Erschließung einer Höhenebene für die Weltmetropole London«led by Professor Jürgen Ruth (Chair of Constructive Design and Structural Design), students developed solutions for a new traffic level in London. In addition to the existing roads and modes of transport, the students designed alternative traffic routes that optimally complement existing city architectures and make better use of the available space. The seminar mainly focused on the access hubs to these new routes. Patricia Espinosa will review the drafts with seminar participants and develop their proposals further.
