In the exhibition, this educational architecture is pre¬sented as the evolution of a »modernist« typology between 1920 and 1980 that saw classical modernism turn to brutalist and structuralist architecture. The buildings are also testament to the ideology behind the schooling, representing, as such, far more than just an architectural style.
What's more, they represent the global spread of the modernist movement from the European centres of international style – including the Bauhaus – to all corners of the globe. In the year of the centenary of the Bauhaus, the exhibition shows that modern architecture was not only interested in innovative formal solutions, but also in the sustainable design of a dem¬ocratic society.
The exhibition was designed and curated by Dana Gordon (Tel Aviv), Eran Tamir Tawil (Tel Aviv), Inbal Ben-Asher Gitler (Sderot | Be'er Sheva), Yael Allweil (Tel Aviv) and Ronny Schüler (Weimar).
It is sponsored by the German-Israeli Society.
