The articles, written especially for the book, describe work currently being undertaken at the university and provide a genuine picture of Bauhaus-Universität Weimar. Civil engineers, computer scientists, urban studies specialists, media scholars, architects, designers and artists present their thoughts on current artistic and academic issues, and offer insight into their discipline’s methodologies and ways of working.
This collection of articles shows the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar to be an international, interdisciplinary location using modern tools to find solutions to contemporary challenges. The common thread is the question of how the relationship between humans, environment and technology can be shaped so as to enable a liveable environment and a dignified life and to ensure societal cohesion. »It is fascinating to see how the wide range of approaches and ideas in this volume join forces to create something together«, president Winfried Speitkamp explains: »The volume shows our university’s commitment to shaping the present through science, art and technology«.
The book was born under the leadership of university president Prof. Winfried Speitkamp and press officer Claudia Weinreich. The design was created by the Happy Little Accidents agency in Leipzig. Tobias Dahl and Patrick Martin, both Bauhaus-Universität Weimar alumni, developed the corporate identity for the university’s anniversary and designed elements such as the award-winning website www.bauhaus100.uni-weimar.de. Their clear, contemporary design has also shaped the book’s appearance.
The articles are accompanied and visually framed by photographs by Samuel Solazzo and Jannis Uffrecht. Their striking analogue, black-and-white images show university events, exhibitions and locations from the anniversary year, creating an original portrait of the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar. 100 of these photographs will be exhibited on the first floor of the main building from 13 December 2019 to 31 January 2020.
