Two Centenary projects to start today: Next100 and Bauhaus Studio 100

On Friday, 7 December 2018, two Centenary projects funded by the Bauhaus 100 Fund of the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar will present the diverse and experimental art, design and music created in Weimar one hundred years after the founding of the Bauhaus.

In the afternoon, Olaf Bender, co-founder of Raster-Media music label, will give a lecture as part of the NEXT100 project and the Bauhaus Masters series of the Faculty of Art and Design. At 2 pm in Room 116 of the Van de Velde Building, he will discuss his artistic work under the pseudonym Byetone and his renowned Chemnitz label in a talk entitled »Today’s noise, tomorrow’s music«.

The first of seven exhibitions by the Bauhaus Studio 100 will open at the Kunsthalle Harry Graf Kessler at 5 pm. Over the course of the Bauhaus Centenary, Studio 100 will present 100 individuals from 25 years of art and design at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar. In the exhibition »Unser Bauhaus«, Teil 1 (»Our Bauhaus«, Part 1), products and works by design alumni such as Laura Strasser, David Brüll, and Michael Braun who work with materials like porcelain and glass will be shown alongside photographic works by Nathalie Mohadjer and Nina Röder. Lisa Dinges’ ironic homage to the Wagenfeld lamp entitled »Wagenfällt« will also be presented and can even be assembled and dismantled.

The exhibition series for the Bauhaus Centenary was designed by Canan Yilmaz and HP Großmann, both of whom are themselves Bauhaus-Universität Weimar alumni. The series will be accompanied by lectures, performances, and stage events at a total of five locations, including the Pratt Institute in New York and the Ulm School of Design.

In the evening, NEXT100 and the Kunstfest Weimar will host the audiovisual performance night »Raster Signale #1« in cooperation with the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar. At the E-Werk Weimar, key figures such as Frank Bretschneider, Byetone, and Mieko Suzuki will trace the influence of the Bauhaus on contemporary media art production – experimental music and visuals merge to create a cohesive work of art. Tickets are available in advance at the Deutsches Nationaltheater Weimar and at the door starting at 8 pm.
